Wedding Planner Training

Becoming a Wedding Planner with Planning Redefined

Date: 4th June 2020 | Author: Kathryn Scarlett | Reading Time: 6 minutes

When I decided to transition my career path into becoming a Wedding Planner, I knew that I wanted to put my all into it and learn the profession from established, successful planners in the industry. Whilst researching into the industry I came across Planning Redefined and the plethora of courses they had on offer.

I choose to invest in the ‘big one’, Planning Redefined 2019. Which was an incredible two day training course designed for Wedding Planners newbies, jam packed full of hands on workshops, incredible speakers and invaluable information, led by the extremely talented Katrina Otter and Lousie Perry.

The two-day training course started off with an informal networking/introduction time where I met some of the other aspiring planners. Once everyone had arrived we had an introduction to the wedding planning industry the good, the bad, the ugly completely honest authentic outlook from Louise and Kat.

We then got to hear all things flowers from the wonderful Linz owner of The White Horse Flower Company, who also led us through an emergency button hole workshop, which was even more fiddly than I thought it would be, props to all the florists out there!

The day was rounded up with some more discussion on our brands, and getting our business and work out there featured. Oh and how could I forget the budget activity, learning all how to organise and structure where the budget is and should be delegated (more on this in an up coming blog post).

After that information filled day we had an informal Q&A with cocktails courtesy of the fabulous Kalm Kitchen, where we got the opportunity to pick the brains of Kat, Louise, Natalie (from Louise Perry Weddings) and Cara (from Katrina Otter Weddings) who were also the were joined by the wonderful Jenna Hewitt.

Kalm Kitchen then put on a 3 course Dinner for us all, which was first class in every sense the; taste, presentation and service. It really illustrated the impact caterers can have, and what they can bring to the table. Kalm Kitchen catered the full two days at Millbridge Court, and the creativity and style in which they deliver and present their food is something else. One word would be exceptional.

Day two has since become (to me) the day of exceptional guest speakers. Starting with Chapter, a simply amazing branding and PR firm, who gave us an in depth talk on all things branding, PR and the media landscape, it was really an eye opening talk on how much your brand impacts business more so than just a stand out logo, and how it impacts your position in the market to appeal to our target clients.

Following a small caffeine break we had Coco and Kat talk styling and styled shoots and Editorials. We also had the lovely Hannah Duffy talk to us about the importance of photography in both the cases of branding and also weddings. Top tip if you want a stunning photograph of your wedding cake position it in a light space so your photographer can capture it!

The final meal of the course was brought to us again by Kalm Kitchen and this was the most inventive gorgeous lunch I have ever had the pleasure of eating. It was a grazing table with small bowl food options to select, please head over to their Instagram to see more of their stunning creations!

To round off a simply amazing two day training we had the utterly incredible Matthew and Bertie from Matthew Oliver Weddings, talk all thing destinations, mind set and positivity. It was a complete joy to listen to the two of them speak. After a final Q&A with Kat, Louise, Matthew and Bertie the course was complete. I went home with an new burst of motivation and outstanding amount of new knowledge.

I would just like to thank Louise and Kat from Planning Redefined, and all the guest speakers for the time they are investing into making this industry and profession more proffesional and established. I am excited to take this next step in my journey and business.

Love Katy
